What types of Certification Are Available To Dieticians?

Dieticians are able to earn the following certifications in specific areas of the field. For individual state certifications in your area, click here.

• American Dietetic Association (ADA) Certified Dietitian o Requirements include bachelor's degree in nutrition or dietetics, internship at a healthcare or community facility or agency or a foodservice corporation and examination by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

• Board Certified Specialist in Gerontology Nutrition (CSG)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 2,000 hours in gerontology and examination.

• Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 1,500 hours in sports nutrition and examination.

• Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 2,000 hours of pediatric nutrition and examination.

• Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 2,000 hours of renal nutrition and examination.

• Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 2,000 hours of oncology nutrition and examination.

• Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)

  • Requirements include 2 years experience, 1,000 hours in diabetes nutrition and examination.
