Information on Florida Food Handler Cards
A Florida food handlers' card is given to those who pass the examination on proper foodservice behaviors when handling, preparing and serving food in a variety of settings across the state. Certification is required for workers in cafes, restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, schools, hospitals and other establishments where food is prepared or served to the public. Each Florida state food handler's card is valid for three years.
Foodservice worker certification is offered statewide throughout the state of Florida. There are a number of agencies providing the courses necessary to obtain the skills required to obtain a current food handler's card. Many of these courses are even offered online, at reasonable rates. In many cases, food service establishments will cover the costs of these courses for their employees.
Food handler certification in the state of Florida is generally broken up into two categories, those for managers and those for food service employees. Every food service establishment must have at least one person employed with a current manager food handler's card. Most courses are around $25. Some require additional material. The basic food handler's card is just $6.
