Nationally, the BLS projects a 20 percent growth between 2010 and 2020 for dietitians and nutritionists, which is faster than average for all occupations (BLS.gov/ooh, 2012). This growth may be attributed to the increased interest in preventative health care, such as preventing and treating illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. With these conditions comes an increased need for nutritionists and dietitians to provide care for these people. Nutritionists and dietitians in Michigan must become licensed with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which requires submitting an application.
