Chefs and other restaurant and hospitality positions are expected to increase by over 27 percent through 2012 according to CookingSchools.com, an online culinary industry monitor. The state has been hit relatively hard in recent years by the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009, as well as the loss of jobs from the manufacturing and textiles industries statewide. Yet North Carolina’s cities have begun to make a strong comeback, building industry and jobs in recent months. Along with the state’s growing tourism industry, culinary professionals should see excellent growth through the next decade.
