Ontario Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Requirements
Ontarios registered dietitian and nutritionist requirements are among the most stringent in North America. Those who become registered under the College of Dietitians of Ontario, the provinces governing body, are among the most highly regarded across Canada.
The criteria to become a registered dietitian or nutritionist in Ontario according to the College of Dietitians of Ontario are as follows:
- Completion of a four-year degree program or higher from an accredited college or university program in foods & nutrition, dietetics, health sciences or closely related degree.
- Completion of a practical training program or internship in an accredited program as identified by the College of Dietetics of Ontario and the Dietitians of Canada.
- Proficiency in English or French
- A record of ethical and competent behavior as identified by the College of Dietetics of Ontario
- Good character and conduct as identified by the College of Dietetics of Ontario
- Knowledge and competence of all current dietetic and nutritional information
- Successful completion of the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination
