Utah State Registered Dietitian and Dietetic Technician Requirements

The state of Utah is one of 27 state that does not require a specific license to practice dietetics, instead recognizing the national exam and licensure of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and its Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

The state of Utah and the UDA endeavor to achieve the highest quality of dietetic service to its residents, patients and clients, in addition to maintaining best practices for its dietitians and nutritionists.

The set requirements to become a Registered Dietitian for the ADA and in the State of Utah includes:

1. Current CDR card
2. 4 hours of HIV/AIDS training

The set requirements for a Nutritionist in the State of Utah includes:

1. Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program (Link) in either;

  • Human nutrition,
  • Nutrition education,
  • Foods and nutrition
  • Public health nutrition

2. Seven hours of HIV/AIDS training.

Fees as of August 1, 2008 are available below:

  • Application fee $35
  • Late fee $20
  • Duplicate copy $15
  • Renewal fee $20
  • Certificate of the CD/CN title (needed for another state) $25
