Utah Nutritionist & Dietitian Employment Outlook
A working study by the Utah Department of Health Bureau of Health Promotion set to be released during March of 2010 found that the obesity rate in the state of Utah has more than doubled since 1989. The level of clinically defined obese residents went from just 10.5 percent to over 23 percent in just two decades. Moreover, those overweight have risen from 39 percent to 63 percent during this same period, a 61 percent increase. There is some good news, as the rate has lately begun to level off, opposed to the national rate, which continues to climb. This has been attributed to the states commitment to nutrition, health and fitness, promoted in schools and communities across the state. Nutritionists and Dietitians are needed to continue to lead public health.
According to the Utah Labor Market Information Division, the next decade is expected to see the number of Nutritionists and Registered Dietitians practicing in Utah hospitals, clinics and public health facilities to grow at a continued steady pace while those working in business, consulting or private practice are expected to grow at an even faster rate. Moreover, under the federal governments 2009 health care proposals, patient benefits and medical advancements may continue to increase demand for various types of research throughout the nutrition industry.
