Become a Nutritionist or Dietitian in Vermont
Vermont Nutritionist & Dietitian Employment Outlook
The Chaplain Valley Area Health Education Center, a federally funded public health agency, noted that employment of Nutritionists and Registered Dietitians is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through 2014. This may come as a result of increased focus and federal funding on disease prevention through improved daily health including nutrition. Moreover, an aging and growing Vermont will also increase demand for nutritional assistance and counseling in nursing homes, schools, prisons, community health programs and more.
According to a recent study by the American Dietetic Association, over two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, an increase of over 20% from two decades ago. Moreover, nearly 76 million Americans became ill in 2009 due to pathogens and other contaminates found in food. Moreover, an estimated 12 and a half million Americans will not have enough food in 2010 to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
During the next decade, nutritionists and dietitians will be at the forefront of the fight against the countries continuing poor health. Initiatives by the federal government will continue to increase awareness to the subject of nutrition, providing funds for the industry as well. Whether you choose to specialize in dietary research, weight management, specific ailment therapy or a consultant to a food manufacturer or hospital developing healthier products, a degree in a nutrition science is your first step.
