Nutritionist or Registered Dietician Assistant Careers

What are the daily tasks for various Nutritionists and Dietitians?

A Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian Assistant performs tasks like general health and dietary assessments, daily nutritional assessments, etc. They work on prescribing general and specialized nutritional plans for patients.

Many state health departments have created specific agencies for those interesting in this field. For instance, the state of California specifically recognizes a certified Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Assistant (WNA). This individual is certified in California to carry out the duties of a Nutritionist or Dietitian assistant, and often given additional duties for specific state funded programs.

Although a certified Nutritionist of Registered Dietitian provides more comprehensive and individualized nutrition services, as nutritional sciences become more popular, they must work closely with an assistant in this field to administer nutritional and dietary information to a growing number of patients and clients. Assistants must still learn the necessary skills to correctly treat patients, many times including a college certificate or degree from an accredited school.

Additional Duties Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian Assistants are also available to work in the community to a degree that a Nutritionist or RD is not able. This includes conducting classes for communities and education facilities in the community, performing workshops and other various pubic service.

While the BLS does not provide salary or employment outlook information for dietitian assistants, it does provide information on nutritionists and dietitians which may be helpful in determining the salary and employment range for dietitian assistants.
