Florida Nutritionist Certification and Licensing

All certification required in the state of Florida, whether state or national, not only upholds the high standards necessary to distinguish the best among those who practice dietetics and nutrition, but also protects the patients and clients who seek nutritional assistance throughout the state. Because of the Florida Dietetic Association (FDA) and American Dietetic Association's strict guidelines, those who receive nutritional consultancy or care from a registered dietitian or dietetic technician in the state of Florida can be sure they are getting the highest quality care, the most up to date information and the safest recommendations.
Dietitian/Nutritionist in the state of Florida can become registered not only with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), but with the Florida Dietetic Association and the state's Board of Licensing as well. Florida offers several methods by which to apply for the dietitian/nutritionist license. The application for licensure contains information about each method. Certification to become a registered dietitian (RD) or dietetic technician, registered (DTR) by the CDR and the FDA are as follows:
- Completion of an acceptable four-year degree or higher focused on nutrition science, dietetics or closely related field
- Completion of the CDR's registration examination for dietitians
- Registration with the Florida State Dietetic Association and state Board of Licensing
